St. Paris Flower Barrels

The Village Flower Barrels

This year’s Village flower barrels were just a bit more beautiful than in past years. Many people in the Village are involved each year to make the flower barrels happen. First, we have our Mayor, Brenda Cook, who is Chairperson of the Village Barrel Project sponsored and paid for by Our Town, St. Paris Association. Brenda assisted Brian and Casey Wente, owners of Green and Growing (formerly David’s Greenhouse) in choosing the plants for this year’s barrels. All plants were started and grown by Brian and Casey.  This year’s plant selection: Dorotheanthus Mezoo “trailing red”, Plectranthus Cervis ‘n lime, Sprengeri Fern, and Petunias. Next, the AB Graham FFA students with their advisor Dawn Wallace arranged the plants into each barrel. Then there were a few barrel covers that needed repaired and painted. This was taken care of by Operation Rebirth along with Councilman Sam Ronicker and resident Larry Smith. Next, we have Gina Verlaney who schedules all the volunteers who water the barrels. This year’s volunteers were: Gay Carafa, Tiffany Homer, and Susan Millington from the St. Paris Pharmacy, Keith Calland from Professional Alternative Therapeutic Therapies, Village residents Joyce Bowlin, Paul Wheeland, Ray Smoot, Gina Verlaney and Stephanie Owen. After the flower barrel season is over, the Street Dept. and the Water Dept. help pick up these very heavy barrels and store them. Our Town, St. Paris Association can always use some help with next year’s project. There is a need for more barrels, more money, more volunteers, and more members to join Our Town, St. Paris Association. If you are interested in helping, you can stop by the Municipal Building and pick up a membership form.
